An internal Facebook researcher found that “64% of all extremist group joins are due to our recommendation tools.†Facebook's own algorithmic group recommendation products, “Groups You Should Join†and “Discover,†"grow the problem.†The company announced it would no longer recommend political groups with these tools, although previous experience suggests there will be omissions.
